As many of you will have seen on other more frequently updated news sites, Oracle has made a bid for BEA (Tuxedo and Weblogic). The cash offer (so somebody’s been making it lately) weighed-in at $17 a share. Since then BEA’s shares have gone higher and Oracle have gone quiet.

The Monday Movie at the Kirkgate was made and shown. It’s I, Anna, a sort of throw-back film-noir with a baffled cop and a femme fetale. This needed a fair amount of belief suspension and some plot-hole ignoring, for it was set in a contemporary London. The main idea was that the primary suspect was a divorcée, who’d actually done it, but suffered a mental block and who meets the investigating officer, and the victim, at Speed Dating. You can see this was going to be a stretch. Both Charlotte Rampling and Gabriel Bryne manage to keep a straight face in all of this, which makes them fine actors.
